Winter is the best time to catch some waves, with swells reaching up to 20 feet or more. But even during the summer months, there are plenty of smaller waves to be found.

Oahu’s North Shore is also known for its laid-back atmosphere and friendly locals. Visitors can find a variety of activities to enjoy, from hiking and camping to snorkeling and swimming.

Whether you’re looking to catch a few waves or simply soak up the sun, Oahu’s North Shore is the perfect place to do it.

Oahu’s History and Traditions.

The island was first settled by Polynesian explorers in about 1200 AD. In 1778, Oahu was explored by British Captain James Cook, who named it “The Sandwich Isles” in honor of his sponsor, the Earl of Sandwich.

The Island was later renamed “Oahu” by King Kamehameha I who ruled in the early 19th century. He was known as a great leader, warrior, and diplomat. His greatest achievement was to bring all the warring tribes into one in 1810.

The island is also home to several important historical sites, including Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head crater, and the Iolani Palace.

Oahu has since been a key strategic location for both military and commercial purposes. During World War II, Oahu was the site of the Pearl Harbor attack, which drew the United States into the war.

Today, Oahu is well-known for its beautiful beaches, surfing culture, and vibrant nightlife. Numerous films and television shows have been set on the island, further solidifying its status as a tourist destination.
