Veterans Employee Resource Group (VERG) members along with families and friends took part in the largest celebration of veterans – the 103rd Annual New York City Veterans Day Parade.
This is the second time VERG has marched in the annual event.
This year’s Grand Marshal was Dr. Vince M. Patton III, the Eighth Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard, and the first African-American to hold that prestigious position. Vince spent over 30 years in uniform, and continues to serve military members, veterans and young people.
Derrick Smith, National Grid Gas Dispatch Manager and Marine veteran said,
“To take part in celebrating the military service of our nation’s men and women is truly special for us,”
“Many of our employees, including leaders, are veterans with many who continue to serve in the reserves following their enlistment time. I’m proud to work for a company whose leaders support us and show appreciation for our service.”
In honor and celebration of veterans, VERG received a public service citation from the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8540 in Breezy Point, Queens.
National Grid colleagues Brittany Dombrowski of Finance; James Flannery, Vice President of Power Generation and Mary Brolly, Energy Procurement Manager had the honor of attending the breakfast on November 12 and receiving the citation in recognition of VERGs work with veterans, providing employment, promoting career advancement and housing.
