History of Edinburgh.

Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, is considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its history dates back centuries.

The city has been inhabited since at least the Iron Age thanks to its position atop several hills along with its natural harbor. Edinburgh Castle has been standing since at least 1124 AD when King David I started building it as an important royal residence. The Royal Mile which connects Edinburgh Castle to Holyrood Palace was established shortly after as the main thoroughfare through Old Town.

In 1437 James II was crowned at Stirling Castle, however, his true coronation took place in Edinburgh with much fanfare and feasting in 1449 where he was formally consecrated as King of Scots; this date marks the founding of the City of Edinburgh by Royal Charter.
