History of the Festival.

The International Kite Festival is an special event celebrated annually since the late 19th century. International Kite Festivals are held in many countries worldwide, including India, Japan, and Thailand. It’s a unique tradition that brings together people of different nationalities to share their culture and celebrate the beauty of kite flying.

The origins of this event could go back to India, where it was initially known as Makar Sankranti, a Hindu harvest festival dedicated to the sun god Surya. During this celebration, people fly kites as an offering to Surya and pray for good health and prosperity.

In recent years, the traditional Indian custom has spread across the globe, with many other countries adopting similar festivals each year to celebrate kite flying.

Kites and Their Designs.

Kites have been a part of many cultures throughout history, serving both practical and recreational purposes. The International Kite Festivals celebrate the diversity and intricacy of traditional kite designs worldwide.

During this festival, people come together to display their kites, compete in flying competitions, and appreciate the beauty of these creations.

The earliest known use of kites dates back to the 5th century BC China where they were used for military purposes such as signalling and sending messages across long distances. Over time, different cultures developed styles and designs that served various functions, from fishing to religious ceremonies.

Historically, the Chinese are said to have invented flat paper kites, while the Japanese kites are often more colourful and intricate than others. Indian designs typically feature bright colours with motifs like gods or animals and Hindu symbols representing good luck or prosperity.
