Gina Lollobrigida was a renowned Italian actress and one of the most popular film stars of the 1950s and 1960s.

She began her acting career in 1947 at the age of 19 and became famous for roles in films such as Beatrice Cenci, Trapeze, Peccato di Castita and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Gina Lollobrigida’s illustrious career spanned over sixty films, earning her acclaim from peers as well as numerous awards around the world. Her work has been cited by filmmakers as influential on their own work while she remains an inspiration to aspiring actresses today.

Her childhood in Subiaco, Italy

Gina Lollobrigida was born on July 4, 1927 in Subiaco, Italy. She rose to fame after appearing in a number of successful post-war films, and has won awards in both Europe and the United States.

Gina Lollobrigida first appeared in front of the film camera in 1945, beginning her journey to becoming an international celebrity.

From attending Cannes Film Festival dressed in vibrant, bedazzled gowns to gracing magazine covers and frequently appearing on the red carpet at sumptuous Hollywood events, Gina Lollobrigida was one of the most admired female superstars of her time.

Gina Lollobrigida is best known for her roles in such films as Beat the Devil (1953), Trapeze (1956), and Solomon and Sheba (1959).

Beat the Devil was based on an original screenplay by the famously eccentric British novelist and screenwriter, Truman Capote.  Gina shone in this dark comedy, which starred Humphrey Bogart, Peter Lorre, Jennifer Jones, and Robert Morley.

Next came Gina’s role in Trapeze; a film about two rival tightrope walkers whose competition turns to friendship when they meet Gina’s talented character Lola.

Gina sealed her stardom with a leading role as Queen of Sheba alongside Yul Brynner in 1959’s Solomon and Sheba.

Her incredible performances earned Gina international recognition and she was further recognized as one of Italy’s greatest actresses.
