About Instagram
Instagram is one of the most popular social media platforms in the world, with over 200 million active users. The platform allows users to share photos and videos with their followers, and has become a cultural phenomenon since its launch in October 2010.
Instagram (Originally called Picaboo) was founded by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, who were both working as software engineers at Google before they decided to create their own startup.
The idea for Instagram was born out of a love for photography and sharing moments with friends. Systrom and Krieger noticed that there was no easy way to share photos on mobile devices at the time, so they set out to create a platform that would allow people to easily snap pictures and share them with their friends.
Instagram quickly gained popularity after its release, and was acquired by Facebook in 2012 for $1 billion. By June 2014, it hit 200 million monthly active users which proved to Mark Zuckerberg that he made a good purchase for Facebook.
