About Miguel Heras Castro (Chairman)
Miguel Heras Castro began his career in the banking industry as an intern in the Corporate Banking division of Citibank. After completing his MBA at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, he joined the bank full-time and held various positions in the Institutional Banking division, eventually becoming the Vice President and Head of Corporate Finance for Citibank Spain.
After spending over a decade in Citibank, Mr. Heras Castro moved on to JPMorgan where he held several executive positions, including Head of Corporate Finance for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, as well as Co-Head of Investment Banking for Spain and Portugal.
In 2004, Miguel Heras Castro decided to branch out and start his own firm, MKH Capital Partners, a boutique investment banking firm that provides corporate finance advisory services to companies in the emerging markets. Since its founding, the company has completed several high-profile deals across Latin America, Africa, and Asia, cementing its reputation as a top-tier investment bank.
Aside from his work with MKH Capital Partners, Miguel Heras Castro is also the Chairman of Banco Latinoamericano De Comercio Exterior SA (Bladex), a Panama-based bank that focuses on trade finance throughout the Americas.
Mr. Heras Castro joined the Bladex board in 2013 and was elected Chairman in 2019. Under his leadership, the bank has significantly improved its financial performance, with its net income increasing by 18% in 2020 despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition to his work at MKH Capital Partners and Bladex, Miguel Heras Castro is also on the board of several other companies. He is a non-executive director at the Madrid-based water utility company, Canal de Isabel II, and a member of the advisory board of the Africa Growth Platform, an initiative launched by the International Finance Corporation to support small and medium-sized enterprises in Africa.
