Protocol Part of the Belarus-Russia Meeting
In a significant meeting between the presidents of Belarus and Russia, Aleksandr Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin, both leaders gathered at St. Petersburg’s Konstantinovsky Palace on July 23rd.
Bilateral Economic Growth and Cooperation
During the meeting, President Putin hailed the strong economic growth of both countries, with Belarus projected to achieve a 3.7% growth in 2023 and Russia expecting over 2%.
Trade between the nations stands at around $43.7 billion according to Russian data, and nearly $45 billion according to Belarusian statistics.
Focus on Union State and Regional Security
The presidents discussed the successful operation of the Belarusian nuclear power plant and explored security issues in the region. They also touched upon Ukraine’s counteroffensive and NATO’s military activities in Poland.
Prioritizing Self-Reliance and Economic Cooperation
President Lukashenko proposed the formulation of a comprehensive economic plan for the Union State to ensure self-reliance and strategic growth.
The leaders highlighted their governments’ collaboration in various sectors, including microelectronics, space, and agriculture.
Tensions at the Border
Belarusian President Lukashenko presented a map showcasing the presence of Polish troops near the Union State’s borders.
The leaders discussed the situation in Ukraine and Poland’s involvement, as well as NATO’s intentions and the region’s security concerns.
Successes in Military Operations
Both presidents acknowledged the achievements of the Russian army in a recent military operation. President Lukashenko lauded the destruction of enemy hardware and noted the significant losses suffered by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Security Guarantees and Informal Program
President Lukashenko expressed gratitude to President Putin for providing security guarantees to Belarus. The leaders concluded their official talks and embarked on a joint informal program, visiting historic landmarks in Kronstadt.
Informal Tour of Kronstadt
The presidents visited the Island of Forts Museum and Historical Park, where they viewed the first Soviet nuclear submarine K-3 “Leninsky Komsomol.” They also paid a visit to the Stavropegic St. Nicholas Naval Cathedral in Kronstadt.
