A Forward-Looking Strategy
In a pivotal move following an accord with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Alicia Bárcena, has instigated a reconfiguration of key departments within the Foreign Ministry.
The primary objective behind this strategic overhaul is to fortify the ministry’s capabilities in anticipation of the imminent challenges that lie ahead in this new phase.
Unveiling Key Appointments
Amid these changes, the roles of key individuals have been reaffirmed. Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, Carmen Moreno Toscano, together with the leader of the Unit for North America, Roberto Velasco Álvarez, and legal consultant, Alejandro Celorio Alcántara, have all formally ratified their commitments to their respective assignments.
A New Direction for Leadership
Notably, Laura Elena Carrillo Cubillas has been appointed as the new Undersecretary for Latin America and the Caribbean.
Meanwhile, Joel Hernández García is set to assume the mantle of Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights, with his tenure commencing on August 16.
Importantly, both Carrillo Cubillas and Hernández García, along with Secretary Bárcena herself, will undergo the Senate of the Republic’s ratification process.
Fresh Faces at the Helm
The Foreign Minister has also brought fresh faces into key managerial roles. Israel Soberanis Nogueda is now heading the Administration and Finance Unit, marking a significant shift in leadership.
Simultaneously, the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (Amexcid) welcomes Gloria Sandoval Salas as its new head, signaling a change in direction.
Navigating Communication and Coordination
Among these changes, Hugo Corzo Zanabria takes charge of the General Directorate of Social Communication, while Miguel Malfavón Andrade spearheads the General Directorate of Foreign Service and Human Resources.
The General Directorate of Protocol sees Jonathan Chait Auerbach at the helm, while Publio Rivera Rivas assumes leadership of the General Directorate of Political Coordination.
Steadfast Appointments
Secretary Bárcena rounds off these crucial appointments by designating Martín Borrego Llorente as the head of her office.
Adding to this, Alejandro Barbachano Bernal has been selected as her private secretary, underscoring the importance of this comprehensive reorganization in positioning the ministry for the road ahead.
