Major Crackdown
In a significant crackdown on illegal activities in Western Visayas, authorities have reported the seizure of over PHP3 million worth of illegal drugs and assorted firearms, leading to the arrest of 411 suspects during a week-long operation from September 4 to 10.
A Varied Group of Suspects
Major Grace Borio, the spokesperson for the Police Regional Office – Western Visayas (PRO-6), shared details of the operation, revealing that among the 411 individuals arrested, a diverse group of suspects emerged. They included 201 “wanted and most wanted persons,” 127 individuals involved in illegal gambling, 68 suspects linked to drug-related offenses, and 15 gun ban violators.
Drug Operations Unveiled
Borio provided further insights, stating,
“We executed 52 drug operations, resulting in the apprehension of 68 drug personalities. Notably, the operations led to drug recoveries, including 514.278 grams of shabu valued at PHP3.497 million and 15 grams of marijuana.”
Firearms Surrendered and Recovered
In addition to the drug-related crackdown, law enforcement either surrendered or confiscated a significant number of firearms and explosives during the operation, known as “Birada Semana.” They removed a total of 140 assorted firearms and 20 explosives from circulation.
A Decrease in Operations
However, when compared to the previous month’s achievements, the number of operations during “Birada Semana” witnessed a decline, particularly in terms of drug confiscations and the surrender/recovery of firearms. Borio acknowledged this decrease and suggested a reason.
A Potential Depletion of Drug Supply
Borio explained that law enforcement had seized a substantial volume of drugs just a week before the start of “Birada Semana.” This significant pre-operation drug seizure might have depleted the available drug supply, resulting in lower numbers in this recent operation.
This significant crackdown in Western Visayas underscores law enforcement’s ongoing and steadfast efforts to combat illegal activities in the region. Furthermore, it highlights notable achievements in drug seizures, suspect apprehensions, and firearms recovery.
