Exclusive Benefits for DepEd Personnel
Teachers and other employees of the Department of Education (DepEd) are set to enjoy a range of exclusive benefits, including a dedicated express lane at the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) Central Office and its regional branches.
This significant development follows the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MOA) on Monday, spearheaded by Vice President and concurrent Education Secretary Sara Z. Duterte and GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso.
Key Provisions of the MOA
In addition to the exclusive express lane, the MOA, which will be swiftly implemented, introduces several teacher-specific enhancements to the GSIS services. These measures include the establishment of a dedicated DepEd personnel option on the GSIS hotline, the appointment of specialized officers to handle accounts of teachers and DepEd staff, and the initiation of an annual dialogue between the DepEd and GSIS.
A Milestone for Education Personnel
Expressing her satisfaction during the signing ceremony at the GSIS head office in Pasay City, Duterte stated,
“On behalf of all the teachers and, of course, the non-teaching personnel of the Department of Education, we are truly happy that we are able to finalize the MOA for the ultimate customer experience for our teaching and non-teaching personnel.”
She emphasized the significance of the gathering, taking place during National Teacher’s Month, as part of the ongoing efforts by the DepEd and GSIS to address the concerns of their employees.
Collaboration to Solve Challenges
Duterte pointed out that DepEd comprises more than half of the entire GSIS membership, underscoring their commitment to engage in dialogues to find solutions to the issues faced at the school level. The partnership aims to enhance the experience of government teachers and DepEd staff.
GSIS President’s Commitment
In response, GSIS President Wick Veloso expressed his eagerness to collaborate with DepEd in enhancing the customer experience for teachers. He stated,
“Under the leadership of our Secretary (of) Department of Education and Vice President, we are confident that constant interaction with your team will allow us to deliver the promise of a better life not only for the teachers but also for the rest of the Filipinos.”
Expanding Benefits
Furthermore, GSIS is planning to launch a program that offers medical insurance to teachers, supplementing what Philhealth provides. This initiative demonstrates the commitment of GSIS to go “over and above” in serving the healthcare needs of educators and government personnel.
