Zhao Kejin, Professor and Deputy Dean of the School of Social Sciences at Tsinghua University was involved in the early stages of the BRI. He and his colleagues actively engaged with relevant ministries and commissions, providing invaluable insights to the government through reports. In 2017, Zhao joined the team that initiated the Belt and Road Devos Forum, a platform aimed at conveying China’s perspective and policies on global issues.
Tsinghua as a Policy Advisor
Shi Zhiqin, Executive Dean of the Belt and Road Institute at Tsinghua University described the University’s role as a “policy advisor” that conducts significant research and collaborates with China’s leading think tanks to guide the strategic development of the BRI.

Hu Yu, Professor at the School of Journalism and Communication and Lecturer in Global Competence and Overseas Practice at Tsinghua University, emphasized the importance of first-hand information in overcoming biases. To enhance mutual understanding between China and other nations, he organized academic and cultural exchanges to provide insights into different cultures and societies.

Zheng Hao, a postgraduate student in Civil Engineering, represented Tsinghua University in the UN Asia Pacific Youth Exchange Program. Her research work in underserved regions of Thailand ignited her aspiration to become a “global civil servant.”

Cao Fengze, Assistant Director of the Africa Branch at Sinohydro Bureau 11 Co., Ltd., an alumnus of Tsinghua University, shared his journey, emphasizing how his involvement in infrastructure projects across Africa has enriched his sense of global community.

Zhang Yiqing, a Tsinghua alumnus and General Manager, played a pivotal role in the construction of a towering landmark in Egypt. The skyscraper commemorates the 65th anniversary of Sino-Egyptian diplomatic relations and symbolizes the enduring bonds between the two nations, showcasing China’s construction expertise.
