More Civil Defense Private Partnerships
The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in the Philippines has reaffirmed its commitment to boosting the nation’s disaster response capabilities through a continued partnership with the private sector.
Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno, the administrator of OCD, recently convened with the board members of the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF) in Pasig City, aiming to strengthen this collaboration as an integral part of the “whole-of-nation approach” to disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM).
A Shared Vision for Disaster Resilience
“In our recent meeting with the PDRF board, we affirmed OCD’s commitment to continuously strive towards the betterment of our country’s DRRM with the help of the private sector,”
stated Undersecretary Nepomuceno in a released statement. He added,
“PDRF is one of the staunch partners of the government in capacity-building activities, humanitarian response, and other DRRM aspects and efforts. And for that, we are grateful. We will fortify more collaborations.”
Strengthening Disaster Response Partnerships
The OCD and the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation have a history of collaborating in the development and launch of the Public Service Continuity Guidebooks. They also provide technical assistance for training activities and support for disaster response operations. These joint efforts are integral to the Philippine Preparedness Partnership, known as PhilPrep, a multi-sectoral platform designed to enhance disaster preparedness.
A Collaborative Approach
Within the framework of PhilPrep, the OCD, PDRF, the Center for Disaster Preparedness, and the University of the Philippines Resilience Institute represent the government, private sector, civil society organizations, and academia, respectively. This diverse representation allows for a holistic approach to disaster resilience and management, ensuring that a broad spectrum of expertise is brought to the table.
PDRF: A Key Player in Private Sector Coordination
The Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation is pivotal as the country’s primary private-sector coordinator for DRRM. This role enables it to forge crucial links with government agencies, humanitarian institutions, and civil society groups, fostering a more coordinated and effective response to disasters.
In a world where disasters and emergencies continue to pose significant challenges, the strengthened partnership between the Office of Civil Defense and the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation is a beacon of hope, exemplifying how public and private entities can join forces to enhance disaster resilience and protect communities across the Philippines.
