A Diplomatic Mission
On November 1, Foreign Minister Alicia Bárcena Ibarra, acting on behalf of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, embarks on a three-day diplomatic mission to Washington, DC. Her visit serves as an integral part of the inaugural summit of the Alliance for Economic Prosperity in the Americas (APEP).
Strengthening Economic Cooperation
The primary purpose of her visit is to oversee the advancement of economic cooperation initiatives outlined within the APEP, a project conceived just over a year ago during the IX Summit of the Americas in June 2022.
Minister Bárcena Ibarra will use this opportunity to underscore the importance of incorporating all nations in Latin America and the Caribbean into this vital forum.
Building Bridges and Forging Relationships
This marks Secretary Bárcena Ibarra’s third visit to the U.S. capital, where she will engage in discussions with senators, heads of state, and key leaders.
A Day of Diplomacy
The first day of her diplomatic mission includes meetings with a group of senators, where discussions will revolve around the outcomes and advancements stemming from the High-Level Economic Dialogue, the High-Level Security Dialogue, and the Palenque Declaration.
Fostering Collaboration and Integration
On Thursday, November 2, the minister has a packed schedule of engagements. These engagements include her participation in an event for APEP leaders alongside legislators and her attendance at the APEP – IDB Responsible Investment Forum.
Additionally, she is scheduled to meet with heads of state from Uruguay, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Chile, and Peru. These sessions will focus on “Economic integration as a driver of inclusive growth.
Minister Bárcena Ibarra is also scheduled for a Mexico-Chile bilateral meeting, where she will meet jointly with the President of Chile, Gabriel Boric.
Promoting Regional Prosperity
On the final day of her diplomatic mission, the Secretary will participate in sessions at the Treasury Department and the White House. The Plenary Session of Leaders will focus on efforts to boost economic stability and regional prosperity through collaborative work within the framework of the Alliance of the Americas.
Additionally, the minister plans to visit the Consular Section of the Mexican Embassy in the United States and hold a meeting with Mexican business representatives. This comprehensive mission reflects Mexico’s commitment to advancing economic collaboration and fostering prosperity in the Americas.
