American Forces Network Brings Super Bowl Excitement to U.S. Military Worldwide
The excitement of Super Bowl LVIII is set to reach American troops around the globe, thanks to the American Forces Network (AFN). Authorized overseas audiences, including U.S. service members and their families, can look forward to live coverage of the much-anticipated event across AFN’s extensive broadcasting platforms, including television, radio, and streaming services on Sunday, February 11.
A Touch of Home Far From Home
Hal Pittman, Director of the Defense Media Activity (DMA), expressed gratitude towards the National Football League (NFL) for their ongoing support, emphasizing the importance of the Super Bowl broadcast in boosting troop morale.
“This partnership with the NFL allows us to deliver a slice of home to our troops serving overseas, enhancing their morale and providing a much-needed respite,” Pittman stated.
Comprehensive Coverage Across Platforms
In a bid to accommodate the diverse schedules of service members across different time zones, AFN will not only offer live coverage but also video-on-demand through its streaming app, AFN Now.
Additionally, the Super Bowl festivities will kick off at 11 a.m. Eastern Standard Time with pre-game highlights including “The NFL Honors Red Carpet Show,” “Road to the Super Bowl,” and the “Kickoff Show.”
Engaging the Military Community
AFN encourages viewers to engage with the broadcast through social media using #SB58AFN and #SuperBowlAFN. Jim Alexander, director of the AFN Broadcast Center, highlighted the significance of the Super Bowl broadcast for the AFN team and its audience.
“Broadcasting the Super Bowl is a highlight of our year, knowing it connects American service members worldwide with one of the biggest sporting events back home,” Alexander remarked.
