On Saturday, September 28, 2024, Tucson residents have the opportunity to make a significant impact in their community.
The Stuff-the-Bus event, organized by Sun Tran and the Emerge Center Against Domestic Abuse, will be held at the El Con Shopping Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This annual event gathers essential items for survivors of domestic abuse, helping them rebuild their lives.
A Day for Community Action
Taking place in the Walmart parking lot at El Con Shopping Center (3435 East Broadway Boulevard), the Stuff-the-Bus event brings the community together for a powerful cause.
Residents are encouraged to donate a variety of new items, including kitchen sets, linens, toiletries, and clothing for individuals of all ages. These contributions go directly to families who are starting over after fleeing domestic violence.
If attending in person isn’t possible, there are other ways to get involved. Emerge Center has created an Amazon wish list, allowing anyone to donate from the comfort of their home. Additionally, monetary donations can be made through Emerge’s website to further support their vital work.
A Partnership Making a Difference
Since 2019, Sun Tran has partnered with Emerge for the Stuff-the-Bus initiative, which has become an essential event in the local calendar. Last year’s effort raised over $2,500 in donations and supplies, significantly benefiting families in need.
According to Karina Valle, Vice President of Community Engagement at Emerge, the community’s support has been invaluable:
“Because of our partnership and the outpouring of support from the community, we are able to make this a successful event that makes a significant difference for individuals and families on their journey toward healing.”
What to Donate:
- Kitchen starter sets (pots, pans, utensils)
- Linens (bedding, towels)
- Toiletries (shampoo, soap, toothpaste)
- Clothing for children, teens, and adults
Getting Involved Beyond the Event
Emerge Center also offers several ways to volunteer throughout the year. Those interested can attend Purple Ribbon Information Sessions to learn more about domestic abuse, its impact, and how they can assist survivors.
These sessions provide critical insights into how to support this vulnerable population and take place at the Emerge Administrative Office, located at 2545 E. Adams St. Call 520 512 5129 for more information.
