Tucson residents have a golden opportunity to dispose of hazardous waste safely and responsibly this Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Eastside City Hall.
From 8 a.m. to noon, the city’s Environmental Services Department will host its monthly Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection event, offering a free drop-off for items like electronic waste and paper documents for shredding.
The City of Tucson’s Environmental Services Department is once again stepping up to help residents manage their household waste in an environmentally friendly manner.
This Saturday’s HHW event at Eastside City Hall is part of a long-standing initiative aimed at reducing hazardous materials in landfills and promoting sustainability within the community.
Event Details
Residents can bring household hazardous waste, electronic waste, recyclables, and glass bottles and jars without any charge.
However, it’s crucial to note that unknown chemicals will not be accepted. The event also offers document shredding services with a limit of three boxes per resident.
While the Los Reales Sustainability Campus usually accepts HHW on Thursdays through Saturdays, it will be closed this Saturday due to the event.
Residents from neighboring areas such as Marana or Oro Valley should be aware that they will incur a $10 fee if they choose to participate.
What This Means for Local Residents
- A convenient way to dispose of hazardous materials safely
- Free document shredding service available
- Opportunity to contribute to environmental sustainability efforts
- Access limited for non-Tucson residents with an associated fee
Community Impact and Historical Context
This initiative aligns with Tucson’s broader environmental goals, including previous Zero Waste Collection events that emphasize responsible waste management.
By providing these services regularly, Tucson continues its commitment to enhancing environmental quality—a mission supported by many local leaders and residents alike.
However, there are limitations on what can be disposed of during these events. Medical waste such as sharps or old medications is not allowed; neither is business or commercial waste.
These restrictions ensure that only appropriate materials are handled by trained professionals.
