Mary Elizabeth Truss is now the new UK Prime Minster after the Queen of England accepted her appointment. As the newly appointed Prime Minister, she takes over the role immediately and will shortly appoint her cabinet.
About Mary Truss
Mary Truss, better known as Liz Truss is a Conservative Party politician in the United Kingdom. She was formerly the Secretary of State for International Trade and President of the Board of Trade. She was born on 26 July 1975 in Oxford, England to Tim and Claire Truss. Her father was an academic at the University of Sussex while her mother later became a headteacher. Truss was educated at Roundhay School in Leeds and then went on to study Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at Merton College, Oxford.
After graduation from Oxford University, she worked in Shell and Cable & Wireless, and was deputy director of the think tank Reform.
Truss began her political career in 2010 when she was duly elected as the representative for South West Norfolk at the 2010 General Election. As a backbencher in the House of Commons, she founded the Free Enterprise Group of Conservative MPs.

Is Liz Truss popular in the Conservative Party?
There is no easy answer to this question as opinions seem to be quite divided. Some people feel that Liz Truss is not popular enough and does not have the experience necessary to be Prime Minister. Others feel that she is a very capable politician and is exactly what the Conservative Party needs at this time.
It will be interesting to see how her term as Prime Minister plays out and how she handles the various challenges that come with the role.
During her career, she has made several political u-turns and in fact, started out as a Liberal-Democrat during her Oxford days and changed from pro-Brexit to anti.
What does Europe expect from Liz Truss?
It is a difficult time for European leaders to pass judgment as she has sat on both sides of the Brexit debate. While working in Europe she did build some good working relationships and has many allies there.
European leaders did take note of her strong stances when it came to Russia/Ukraine and the potential Chinese National Security threat.
What do the British people expect?
The first and some same most important issue is the energy crisis. With costs spiraling out of control due to a lack of legislation for the energy companies. The public will be looking for her to address the issues surrounding fuel poverty in the light of a cold winter.
She has made it clear that she is keen to cut taxes which was widely supported by the Conservative Party. Now it remains to be seen if she will implement them under the pressure of the economy and post-pandemic recovery.
