As Tucson marks Manufacturing Month this October, the City of Tucson’s Office of Economic Initiatives is shining a spotlight on the growing local manufacturing industry. Through a series of events, the initiative aims to inspire the next generation to explore modern manufacturing careers and support local economic development.

A Collaborative Celebration of Local Industry

On October 17, the City of Tucson teamed up with Pima County and local schools to host a special Manufacturing Day. Students from Tucson-area high schools visited local manufacturing companies, including AGM Container Controls and Industrial Tool, Die & Engineering.

The students also toured Pima Community College’s Center of Excellence in Applied Technology, where they received hands-on demonstrations in automotive maintenance, welding, and robotics.

Barbra Coffee, Director of Economic Initiatives for the City of Tucson, emphasized the importance of these events:

“By giving students a first-hand look at our local manufacturing facilities, we hope to inspire them to pursue careers in this growing sector.”

Tucson’s Manufacturing Landscape

Tucson is home to a robust and expanding manufacturing sector. Companies like Sargent Aerospace and Leonardo Electronics Inc. are helping to establish the city as a hub for advanced manufacturing. The need for skilled workers in these industries is on the rise, with projections showing millions of manufacturing jobs needing to be filled nationwide by 2030.

Here are some benefits of Tucson’s local manufacturing industry:

  • Job Stability: Manufacturing jobs offer competitive wages and long-term employment prospects.
  • Career Growth: Opportunities for advancement are abundant, particularly in high-tech and specialized manufacturing roles.

Number of Manufacturing Jobs 11,000 13,500
Average Annual Income $88,000 $92,000

This growth showcases the importance of Manufacturing Month as a platform to connect young talent with Tucson’s thriving industries.

Building the Workforce of Tomorrow

Manufacturing Month in Tucson is not just about recognizing current achievements—it’s about shaping the future. With a focus on preparing students for rewarding careers, Tucson’s initiative aligns with national efforts to bridge the skills gap in manufacturing.

Throughout October, events across Tucson provide educational resources, career training, and networking opportunities for local residents. The city’s partnership with Pima Community College ensures that students have access to the tools and training needed to succeed in the field.

Programs in robotics, machining, and automotive technology are just a few of the offerings designed to build a highly skilled workforce.

A Bright Future for Tucson Manufacturing

The demand for skilled manufacturing workers continues to grow, and the City of Tucson is positioning itself as a leader in addressing this need.

By fostering collaboration between local companies, educational institutions, and government bodies, Manufacturing Month serves as a crucial step toward building a stronger, more innovative economy.

Tucson’s efforts are paving the way for the next generation of manufacturing professionals, ensuring the city’s role as a dynamic player in the national and global economy.
