The UK has entered landmark agreements to share its cultural and creative expertise with Saudi Arabia. These partnerships aim to preserve historical landmarks, elevate Saudi Arabia’s creative industries, and transform AlUla into a global cultural hub, enhancing economic ties between the two nations.

UK-Saudi Collaboration on Cultural Heritage

The UK’s Historic England is finalizing a partnership with Saudi Arabia’s Heritage Commission to protect and conserve significant landmarks. This collaboration will exchange best practices, support heritage building restoration, and help develop a strategy to protect Saudi Arabia’s industrial heritage.

The agreement underlines the UK’s status as a global leader in heritage conservation and demonstrates its commitment to international cultural cooperation.

AlUla’s Evolution into a Global Destination

The Department for Culture, Media, and Sport (DCMS) and the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) are working with the Royal Commission for AlUla to boost tourism and creative industries in the city.

AlUla, home to Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site, Hegra, aims to attract 2 million visitors annually by 2035 and generate $32 billion for its economy.

Planned Initiatives Include:

  • Training local talent in hospitality, tourism, and cultural preservation.
  • Developing AlUla’s creative sectors, such as music, cinema, and fashion.
  • Enhancing global marketing efforts to position AlUla as a top cultural destination.
