Safely dispose of hazardous materials, documents, and e-waste at Tucson’s HHW event, Saturday, January 11, from 8 a.m. to noon. Join your community for an environmentally responsible day at Pima Community College East.
Household Hazardous Waste Event Details
On Saturday, January 11, 2025, from 8 a.m. to noon, the City of Tucson’s Environmental and General Services Department (EGSD) will host its monthly Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection event at Pima Community College East, 8181 E. Irvington Rd. This free event offers Tucson residents an opportunity to safely dispose of items that could harm the environment if discarded improperly.
Here’s what you can bring:
- Household hazardous waste (HHW), such as chemicals and batteries.
- E-waste, including old electronics.
- Paper documents for shredding (limit: 3 boxes).
- Glass bottles and jars, along with other recyclables.
Please note: Unknown chemicals, medical waste, dried paint, and CRT monitors will not be accepted. Non-Tucson residents (Marana, Oro Valley, Sahuarita, and unincorporated Pima County) will incur a $10 fee, so proof of address is required.
Why This Matters to Tucson
Improperly disposing of hazardous waste can have severe environmental and health consequences. Chemicals, batteries, and old electronics contain substances that can contaminate soil and water when thrown away carelessly.
The HHW Program provides residents with an accessible way to protect the environment. By dropping off waste at these events, community members contribute to cleaner neighborhoods, safer ecosystems, and reduced landfill contamination.
Los Reales Sustainability Campus Alternative
For those unable to attend the event, the Los Reales Sustainability Campus (5300 E. Los Reales Rd.) is another option.
The campus accepts HHW, e-waste, and recyclables Thursday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. However, it will be closed on January 11 during the event.
