Step Into the Elegance of the Regency Era

History comes alive this March at the Library of Congress. Visitors can celebrate Women’s History Month and the opening of The Two Georges: Parallel Lives in an Age of Revolution with a Regency Ball.

This event, part of Live! At the Library, takes place on March 27, inviting guests to immerse themselves in a night of period dance, music, and historical exploration.

 

A Night of History and Celebration

What to Expect at the Regency Ball

On March 27, the Library of Congress will transform into a grand ballroom, evoking the charm and elegance of the Regency era. Visitors are encouraged to don period attire or U.S. and U.K.-inspired outfits while enjoying:

  • An English folk dance workshop
  • British-themed DJ sets
  • Unique photo opportunities
  • A preview of The Two Georges exhibition

This special evening honors The Two Georges exhibition, which explores the lives of George Washington and King George III, offering insight into their legacies and historical impact.

 

Women’s History Month Highlights

Engaging Author Talks

The Library of Congress commemorates Women’s History Month with two compelling book discussions:

  • March 6: Martha S. Jones presents The Trouble of Color, an exploration of Black identity and belonging.
  • March 13: Rebecca Rego Barry discusses The Vanishing of Carolyn Wells, uncovering the story of a forgotten mystery author.

 

Live Music and Cultural Performances

Visitors can also experience unique performances celebrating women in the arts, including:

  • March 6: A Café Concert featuring the World Music Collective, highlighting female composers.
  • March 13: A vibrant mix of Afro-Caribbean rhythms with Downtown Tumbao.
  • March 20: A Celtic music performance led by Seán Heely, honoring Irish and Scottish traditions.

Exhibitions and Extended Hours

During Live! At the Library, visitors gain access to exhibitions and exclusive spaces, including the stunning Main Reading Room. The Library’s Thomas Jefferson Building remains open late, allowing guests to explore its vast collections while enjoying happy hour in the Great Hall.
