U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) successfully removed Ruben Alonso Urbina Martinez, a 39-year-old Honduran national wanted for murder, from the United States to Honduras on April 2, 2025.

This action was part of a collaborative effort with local authorities to enhance public safety by preventing foreign fugitives from seeking refuge in the U.S.

Cooperation with Local Authorities

The removal of Ruben Alonso Urbina Martinez was made possible through the collaboration between ICE and the Erath County Sheriff’s Office in Texas. This partnership facilitated a targeted enforcement action that led to Urbina’s apprehension.

Such cooperation underscores the importance of local law enforcement agencies working alongside federal entities to address transnational crime effectively.

The joint efforts ensure that individuals evading justice are held accountable.

Public Safety Measures

The removal of foreign fugitives like Urbina is seen as a critical measure to enhance public safety within U.S. communities.

By repatriating individuals wanted for serious crimes, ICE aims to reduce potential threats posed by such fugitives.

This action aligns with broader U.S. efforts to maintain security and uphold immigration laws, ensuring that the country does not become a haven for those fleeing prosecution abroad.

International Collaboration

  • ICE’s collaboration with Honduran authorities highlights international cooperation in addressing crime.
  • The successful removal demonstrates commitment to enforcing justice across borders.
  • This case sets a precedent for future actions involving foreign fugitives in the U.S.

Statements from Officials

Bret A. Bradford, Director of ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Houston Field Office, stated,

This foreign fugitive fled to the United States to evade prosecution for murder in his home country of Honduras…

By repatriating him to Honduras to face justice for his alleged crimes, we have eliminated a threat to public safety in our local communities and sent a resounding message that Southeast Texas will not be a refuge for foreign fugitives or anyone else who undermines the integrity of our nation’s immigration laws.

Such actions reinforce national security measures while upholding justice globally, ensuring that authorities bring those who commit serious offenses before appropriate legal systems, denying them refuge elsewhere.
