Tucson is gearing up for a transformative project at Jacobs Park, with construction set to begin mid-May 2025.

While the park will be closed until summer 2026, main amenities like the pool and splash pad will remain open during the summer months.

This initiative promises to revitalize the park into a vibrant community hub, thanks to a $3 million federal grant and local funding efforts.

Revitalizing Jacobs Park: A Community Effort

Jacobs Park has long been a cherished gathering spot in Tucson’s Ward 3, known for its cultural significance and historical roots. The upcoming improvements are part of a master plan developed with community input since July 2021.

Mayor Regina Romero emphasized the park’s importance, noting that it was one of only ten communities nationwide to secure a federal grant for such enhancements.

Council Member Kevin Dahl expressed gratitude for the improvements, recalling personal memories of family gatherings and sports activities at the park. “The park is well-loved and well-used,” he said, highlighting its role in local life.

What This Means for Local Residents

  • The park will close mid-May 2025 but reopen by summer 2026.
  • Jacobs Pool and Splash Pad remain open from June 1 to July 31.
  • The YMCA at Jacobs Park will continue operations during construction.
  • Household Hazardous Waste events will proceed as scheduled.

Effect on Local Businesses

While some businesses may face temporary disruptions due to reduced foot traffic during construction, the long-term benefits could outweigh these challenges.

The enhanced park facilities are expected to attract more visitors once completed, potentially boosting local commerce and enhancing Tucson’s appeal as a community destination.
