The British High Commission in Accra has launched the “London to Accra Economic Growth Campaign,” aiming to strengthen economic ties between the UK and Ghana by leveraging the British Ghanaian diaspora.

This initiative, inaugurated by London Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan and Accra Mayor Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, includes webinars, digital storytelling, and a business roadshow culminating in a summit in January 2026.

Strengthening UK-Ghana Economic Ties

The “London to Accra Economic Growth Campaign” is a strategic initiative designed to enhance trade and investment between the UK and Ghana through the active involvement of the British Ghanaian diaspora.

By focusing on this community as a vital driver of economic collaboration, the campaign seeks to create new opportunities for entrepreneurs and businesses across both nations.

This campaign follows the success of previous events like the UK-Ghana Diaspora New Year Networking Mixer, which attracted over 500 stakeholders in 2025.

The initiative aims to build on these foundations by offering practical support for entrepreneurs looking to expand their ventures between London and Accra.

Opportunities for Entrepreneurs

  • Participate in webinars offering insights into cross-border trade opportunities
  • Engage with digital storytelling showcasing successful diaspora-led businesses
  • Join a business roadshow connecting entrepreneurs with potential investors
  • Attend the inaugural Diaspora Economic Growth Summit in January 2026

A Broader Context of Engagement

The campaign aligns with broader efforts by the UK government to deepen trade relations with African nations.

With trade between the UK and Ghana reaching approximately £1.4 billion in 2024, this initiative aims to further diversify trade portfolios while enhancing economic resilience through international diaspora engagement.

Diverse Impacts on People

  • Enhanced access to business support for British Ghanaians
  • Cultural ties leading to increased jobs linked to Ghanaian businesses in the UK
  • Practical tools like webinars facilitating cross-border collaboration
  • Cultural industries benefiting from strengthened people-to-people connections
  • Potential increase in cultural exports enhancing UK’s soft power globally
