Prime Minister Keir Starmer and President Xi Jinping held a critical phone call on August 23, 2024. The conversation touched upon the future of UK-China relations, including cooperation on trade, global security, and climate change, as well as addressing areas of disagreement.

During the call, Prime Minister Starmer outlined his government’s top priorities, including national security, securing borders, and ensuring economic stability.

He emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between the UK and China, particularly in areas such as trade, the economy, and education. President Xi congratulated Prime Minister Starmer on his recent assumption of office, noting the significance of UK-China relations in the current international landscape.

He emphasized China’s commitment to viewing the relationship from a long-term, strategic perspective, aiming to build a stable and mutually beneficial partnership.
