Tropical Storm Trami has been causing damage and lots of flooding in Metro Manila. Our reporter on the spot has seen structural damage next to the US Embassy. Gusts are very fast and could be much higher than the 59 mph previously reported.

Structural Damage to Roofs

Parts of the roofs of building next to and opposite the US Embassy in Manila have been observed regularly dropping to the streets below. It is clearly unsafe to enter the streets though winds are now starting to drop. This is in sharp contrast to a few hours earlier where the winds and rain were light.

Localized Flooding Near Manila Bay

Some localized flooding has been seen in the streets of Metro Manila but locals are pretty used to that as there are as many as 8 larger Typhoons each year. To the casual visitor though it can be quite worrying. The local government services did send out a SMS early to warn local residents of the likely effects of this tropical storm.

Trami Storm Sounds Very Loud

For several hours the sound of the storm was like a train. Windows rattles with trees and powerlines dancing all around the streets. We have not heard of any local injuries but with the flying debris it is possible the hospitals are very busy tonight.

The Bottom Line

This is only the edge of a killer Typhoon but it still has teeth. Stay inside unless absolutely necessary and be particularly aware of falling debris.   Sources: THX News.
