Community Dialogue on Food Access and Safety

Food insecurity affects many Tucson residents, and the City of Tucson Parks and Recreation Department is taking action.

In partnership with the Center for Community Mediation and Facilitation (CCMF), the city is inviting the public to join a community conversation about food distribution at city parks.

The discussions will explore ways to improve access to food while addressing neighborhood and safety concerns.

Why This Conversation Matters

Ensuring access to food for those in need is a growing challenge in Tucson. The city issues free Food and Beverage Distribution Permits to regulate food distribution in select parks, balancing community support with public safety.

However, some residents have raised concerns about logistics, park capacity, and overall coordination. This dialogue is an opportunity for the community to voice their opinions and collaborate on practical solutions.

How Food Distribution Works in Tucson Parks

To ensure a fair and organized approach to food distribution, the City of Tucson has implemented a permit system.

These permits are required for distributing food at specific parks during designated hours, except on holidays like Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Organizations must complete a training program covering food safety, cleanup protocols, and available community services.

Mission Manor Seven days a week, AM & PM
Mansfield Park Weekdays, mornings only
