The UK and Scottish governments have joined forces to enhance broadband connectivity in rural Scotland, with around 11,000 homes and businesses in the Scottish Borders and East Lothian set to benefit from gigabit-capable internet upgrades.

This initiative is part of Project Gigabit, aimed at improving digital infrastructure across the country.

Rural Connectivity Boost

The collaboration between the UK and Scottish governments marks a significant step forward in addressing digital inequality in rural areas.

By focusing on enhancing broadband speeds, this initiative will improve remote working capabilities and access to online services.

The first contract under this project has been awarded to GoFibre, a Scottish provider known for its expertise in delivering broadband to rural areas.

Benefits for Local Communities

  • Improved access to essential services like healthcare and education
  • Enhanced remote working capabilities for flexible employment options
  • Support for local businesses with digital tools needed for market competition
