Smart cities are no longer just a vision of the future—they’re rapidly becoming a reality. At GITEX Global 2024, Huawei introduced its groundbreaking “City Intelligent Twins Architecture,” aimed at accelerating city digital transformation on a global scale.

This innovative framework promises to revolutionize urban management by integrating cutting-edge technologies like AI, cloud computing, and big data into smart city infrastructures.

Transforming Cities with Intelligent Twins

As cities worldwide grow in complexity, traditional management systems struggle to keep pace. Recognizing this, Huawei’s City Intelligent Twins Architecture maps the physical city to a digital counterpart, creating a smarter, more efficient environment.

Hank Chen, R&D President of Huawei’s Government Public Services Digitalization BU, described the architecture as one where city networks act as the “meridians” and city clouds function as the “brain,” orchestrating everything from public services to urban governance.

This architecture harnesses AI and cloud-native technologies to enable the digital transformation of city services, improving everything from transportation systems to emergency responses.

According to Huawei, over 200 cities in more than 40 countries have already begun deploying this advanced framework to streamline operations and governance.

Global Collaboration for Smart Cities

At the Global Smart City Innovation Roundtable, Huawei gathered experts from China, the Middle East, Asia Pacific, and Africa to discuss the future of smart city development.

Wang Bin, President of Huawei’s Marketing & Solution Sales Department, highlighted the evolution of Chinese cities, moving from simple digitalization to full-fledged intelligence. This shift, he noted, serves as a roadmap for other global cities looking to enhance their governance through technology.

Huawei’s success in China has been driven by a combination of smart infrastructure and advanced application development, which can now be adapted to cities worldwide.

During the event, Huawei also unveiled a range of solutions developed with global partners, including the National One-Stop Public Services Solution and the National Smart City Solution.

Accelerating Digital Transformation

Huawei’s City Intelligent Twins Architecture is designed to accelerate digital transformation by providing an integrated data system that maximizes the use of citywide data.

The “limbs” of this system are the smart city applications, which enable everything from public services to governance functions to run more efficiently.

Huawei’s commitment to building smart cities doesn’t stop with technology. The company has also been working closely with a range of partners, including Audaque, Linewell, and Bamboocloud, to expand its solutions across various regions.

These collaborations emphasize Huawei’s holistic approach to smart city development, ensuring cities of all sizes can benefit from intelligent digital infrastructure.

The Future of Urban Living

The launch of the City Intelligent Twins Architecture marks a significant step forward in the global push for smart city innovation.

By leveraging cloud, AI, and big data technologies, Huawei is enabling cities to address the growing challenges of urbanization, making them safer, more sustainable, and more livable for millions of residents worldwide.

As more cities adopt Huawei’s architecture, the possibilities for improved city governance, efficient resource management, and enhanced quality of life seem limitless. Digital transformation is reshaping the future of urban living, from emergency services to environmental monitoring.
