PHOENIX, AZ – With 602 Day approaching on Monday, June 2, the City of Phoenix is calling on local businesses and organizations to join in the citywide celebration honoring Phoenix’s original area code.
What is 602 Day?
The annual event celebrates Phoenix’s vibrant culture, food scene, and artistic spaces while boosting local commerce during what is typically a slower season for many establishments.
“We’re looking forward to another successful celebration that highlights everything that makes Phoenix special,” said a city spokesperson.
How Can Businesses Participate?
Businesses can join the celebration by offering:
- Special $6.02 promotions
- 602 Day-themed menu items
- Community activities
- Social media engagement
Last year’s celebration saw more than 100 local entities participate, with many reporting significant increases in sales and foot traffic during early June.
Important Deadlines
To be included in the official celebration, businesses must submit a participation form by Friday, April 25.
Approved participants will be featured on an interactive, mobile-friendly map published on 602Day.com beginning Monday, May 12.
Beyond Retail and Restaurants
The celebration extends beyond shops and eateries. Last year’s participants included:
- Cultural institutions (Phoenix Zoo, Phoenix Art Museum, Arizona Science Center)
- Sports teams (Arizona Diamondbacks, Arizona Rattlers)
- City departments:
- Fire Department distributed 602 smoke detectors
- Parks and Recreation offered free t-shirts with water safety education
- Public Library created a special 602 Day badge

Area Code Day celebrations have become popular nationwide, with communities using the calendar date corresponding to their area code to celebrate local identity.
