Shining a Spotlight on Emirati Women’s Contributions

In a spectacular evening that fused culture and entertainment, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library (MBRL) celebrated Emirati women by hosting a mesmerizing opera performance by renowned Emirati artist Fatima Alhashmi.

The event took place on the grand stage of the Dubai Opera and aimed to showcase the active and impactful role of Emirati women in society.

Distinguished Guests Gracing the Occasion

The event saw the presence of esteemed dignitaries and representatives from various cultural institutions. Among the notable attendees were Dr. Mohammed Salem Al Mazrooei and Jamal Al Shehhi, Board Members of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library Foundation, as well as Paolo Petrocelli, Head of the Dubai Opera.

Also in attendance were delegates from the Emirates Writers Union, the Ministry of Culture and Youth, and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation, along with numerous cultural enthusiasts from across the UAE.

MBRL’s Vision for the Future of Libraries

Dr. Al Mazrooei, a Board Member of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library Foundation, expressed the library’s commitment to evolving into a comprehensive cultural and recreational hub. He emphasized their vision for the future of public libraries, combining knowledge, cultural treasures, arts, and entertainment.

He noted that these efforts align with the UAE’s aspirations for a cultural renaissance, fully supported by the nation’s wise leadership.

The Transformative Power of Art and Music

Al Mazrooei underscored the significance of art and music events in bridging cultural divides and fostering creativity and thought. He highlighted their ability to deliver messages that enhance values and broaden horizons, making them powerful instruments of change and inspiration.

An Enchanting Musical Journey

The evening commenced with a stirring rendition of the UAE national anthem, performed in opera style, followed by a warm welcome speech.

Fatima Alhashmi’s program featured a captivating blend of classic and contemporary songs, including George Bizet’s ‘Habanera,’ Layla Murad’s ‘Ana Albi Daleeli,’ and her own creation, ‘Ayloul,’ a composition marrying oriental melodies with profound lyrics.

The performance also featured the romantic melody of Eduardo Di Capua’s ‘O Sole Mio,’ Asmahan’s ‘Ya Habibi Taal,’ and the popular national song ‘Ana Laha Shams’ by Hussain Al Jasmi, which embodies love and loyalty to the homeland.

The audience was further enchanted by ‘Qalb Bila Haras,’ a modern melody with expressive lyrics, Franz Schubert’s ‘Leise Flehen Meine Lieder,’ Farid Al-Atrash’s ‘Ya Zahra Fi Khyali,’ and Majda El Roumi’s ‘Bas Ellak Habibi.’

A Resounding Success

The opera performance witnessed an overwhelming turnout from art and culture enthusiasts, with an engaged audience adding to the event’s grandeur and prestige.

Attendees praised MBRL for consistently organizing unique events throughout the year, establishing itself as a pioneering public library that seamlessly combines culture and entertainment, serving as an inclusive community hub for all family members.

A Year-Round Celebration of Arts and Culture

MBRL has become synonymous with promoting and empowering Emirati women, particularly in cultural and intellectual spheres. Through a sustainable and unique strategy, MBRL continually raises awareness of the pivotal role women play in cultural and social advancement.

Their calendar is brimming with workshops, seminars, lectures, and various events that highlight women’s contributions to society-building, fostering a deeper appreciation for their vital role in shaping the nation’s future.
