Nearly 100 families in Phoenix are set to benefit from a groundbreaking affordable housing initiative, as the city unveils La Esperanza Terrace, a 96-unit development aimed at providing low-income families with stable and affordable homes.

This project marks a significant step forward in addressing the city’s housing crisis.

The grand opening of La Esperanza Terrace is more than just a ribbon-cutting ceremony; it’s a testament to what can be achieved through innovative partnerships and community collaboration.

Located at 3101 W. McDowell Rd., this new development offers one, two, and three-bedroom units for families earning less than $62,000 annually.

The project is part of the broader Housing Phoenix Plan, which seeks to expand affordable housing options across the city.

Community Support

Mayor Kate Gallego emphasized the importance of such initiatives, stating that creating and preserving affordable housing remains a top priority for Phoenix.

“La Esperanza Terrace is a perfect example of what can be accomplished through community collaboration,” she said.

District 4 Councilwoman Laura Pastor said;

“The opening of La Esperanza Terrace is a significant milestone for Phoenix. It’s more than just affordable housing—it’s a commitment to ensuring our families have the resources they need to thrive.

By working together with our partners, we are transforming vacant land into a foundation for opportunity, stability, and growth for generations to come.”

Supervisor Steve Gallardo, Maricopa Board of Supervisors, District 5 said:

“With rising housing costs and a record-breaking number of eviction cases filed in 2024, it is clear that Maricopa County families are in dire need of more affordable rental options that don’t break the bank.

This project is taking a dirt lot that used to be a preschool site and turning it into a vibrant complex where residents can easily access helpful services, work opportunities, and community support.”

What This Means for Local Residents

  • Access to affordable housing for nearly 100 low-income families
  • Amenities that support education and personal growth
  • Long-term commitment to maintaining affordability for at least 40 years
  • Strengthened community ties through collaborative efforts

The Broader Implications for Phoenix

This project is part of a larger trend in Phoenix where surplus land from school districts is being repurposed for affordable housing developments.

By leveraging unique partnerships with entities like UMOM New Day Centers and Maricopa County, Phoenix aims to create over 300 new affordable units through similar initiatives.
