The Library of Congress invites adults to a special evening of storytelling on February 6 during its popular Live! At The Library series.

The event will feature celebrated author-illustrators Cece Bell, Raúl the Third, and Jon Scieszka.

Visitors can enjoy read-alouds, discussions on picture book artistry, and extended access to the Library’s exhibitions, all in a uniquely welcoming setting.

  • Location: Thomas Jefferson Building, Library of Congress, Washington, D.C.

Visitors will be treated to a unique blend of literature, artistry, and hospitality:

  • Storytelling for Adults: Engaging read-alouds by Cece Bell, Raúl the Third, and Jon Scieszka.
  • Guest Appearance: The newly announced 2025-2026 National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature will join the event.
  • Comfort and Warmth: Enjoy hot chocolate and blankets for a cozy night of stories.
  • Exhibitions and Spaces: Explore the Main Reading Room and other extended-hour exhibitions.

February 20: Douglas Kearney joins Washington Post Book Critic Ron Charles for a discussion on Kearney’s visual poetry collection, I Imagine I Been Science Fiction Always.

February 27: Put on your dancing shoes for an evening of R&B and Soul Line Dancing led by Queen Nur. Learn classic steps like the cha-cha, salsa, and Chicago stepping.

The Library’s exhibits reflect its dedication to preserving history, culture, and art.

  1. Collecting Memories: Treasures from the Library of Congress
    A showcase of rare Americana and international artifacts in over 450 languages.
  2. Thomas Jefferson’s Library
    A reconstructed version of Jefferson’s original collection, featuring 6,487 volumes that formed the Library’s foundation.
  3. Edward Gorey Centennial Celebration
    Commemorate the macabre illustrator’s 100th birthday with selections from the Library’s Edward Gorey collections, on view until March 12.
  4. Black History Month Feature: African Americans and Labor
    Explore a curated display on Black labor’s evolution in the United States, spanning from the colonial period through the 1960s.
