Major Drug Seizure on Interstate 5

U.S. Border Patrol agents in the San Diego Sector intercepted nearly 50 pounds of cocaine during a vehicle stop on Interstate 5 near Camp Pendleton.

A K-9 unit alert led officers to discover narcotics valued at approximately $810,000 in a sedan’s trunk.
Officers took two individuals into custody, and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) assumed control of the case.

Traffic Stop Leads to Significant Drug Seizure

On Thursday at 5:45 p.m., agents from the San Clemente Station stopped a northbound sedan on Interstate 5. During a routine interview with the driver, agents observed suspicious behavior and requested a K-9 unit to inspect the vehicle.

The K-9 quickly alerted to the trunk, prompting a search. Inside, agents found two white trash bags containing 19 cellophane-wrapped packages of cocaine.

Investigation and Arrests

The driver and passenger, both adult males, were taken into custody and transported to a nearby Border Patrol station.

Authorities tested the packages, confirming the presence of cocaine with a total weight of 47.51 pounds.

The DEA has taken over the case, and the suspects face federal narcotics trafficking charges.

Rising Drug Seizures in San Diego Sector

The recent seizure is part of an ongoing effort to combat drug smuggling in Southern California. Interstate 5 is a known corridor for narcotics trafficking, and authorities remain vigilant.

To prevent the illicit smuggling of drugs, weapons, and human trafficking, the U.S. Border Patrol maintains strict surveillance along key transportation corridors.
