Celebrating Tucson’s Disability Community

This year’s event coincides with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, promoting global rights and well-being for individuals with disabilities. Notably, this observance fosters inclusivity and accessibility.

Moreover, Tucson joins the global movement, highlighting local efforts to break down barriers. Furthermore, we reaffirm our commitment to empowering individuals with disabilities.

Councilmember Cunningham expressed his excitement about hosting the event, saying,

“The emphasis this year is on disabled pride and celebrating our amazing disability community. I am excited to share more details over the coming weeks.”

Attendees can expect an array of engaging activities, including:

  • A keynote address by a prominent advocate in the disability community.
  • A panel discussion on disability rights and advocacy, featuring local leaders and activists.

The day will be filled with performances by disabled artists, showcasing their talents and fostering a spirit of inclusion.

Adaptive sports demonstrations in the gym will also be a highlight, with attendees getting a chance to meet local para-athletes, including members of the Tucson Lobos, who will be presenting their Division III National Wheelchair Basketball Championship trophy.

A small resource fair featuring local nonprofits and community groups will provide information on disability services and support. There will also be an art exhibition showcasing the works of disabled artists from across Southern Arizona. Additionally, food trucks and refreshments will be available throughout the day.
