This July, Tucson residents are invited to share messages of thanks as part of Parks and Recreation Month, highlighting the theme “Build Together, Play Together” and honoring the local professionals who keep our public spaces vibrant and welcoming.

A City-Wide Celebration Rooted in Community

Every July, communities across the U.S. celebrate Parks and Recreation Month, but in Tucson, the celebration feels personal.

With over 128 parks, 26 recreation centers, and a growing number of residents using public spaces, the city’s Parks and Recreation Department plays a central role in everyday life.

This year’s theme, Build Together, Play Together, emphasizes collaboration and appreciation—two values deeply embedded in Tucson’s culture.

In 2025, the city invites you to participate by submitting a message of gratitude to the dedicated staff who manage our parks, pools, and programs.

These comments will be shared on Parks and Recreation Professionals Day, Thursday, July 18, and may also be featured on social media.

The Faces Behind Tucson’s Parks

Behind every lush green park and smoothly run recreation center are staff members who rarely take center stage.

Groundskeepers, lifeguards, custodians, program coordinators, and event planners work year-round to ensure these spaces are safe, clean, and welcoming.

Their impact extends beyond aesthetics. Well-maintained parks foster public health, reduce crime, and bring neighbors together.

In 2024, Tucson saw a significant uptick in park usage—mirroring national trends—as residents sought outdoor spaces for wellness, connection, and relaxation.

Participating is easy and impactful. Whether you had a great experience at a summer camp, admired a perfectly mowed lawn, or appreciated the friendly face at your local center—this is your moment to say thanks.

  • Visit the link above to write a short note of appreciation.

  • Mention a specific event or experience if possible—personal stories help show the value of this work.

Your words will reach the people behind the scenes, reminding them how much their service matters.

Building a Stronger Tucson Together

Tucson’s public spaces are more than amenities—they’re pillars of civic life. For young professionals, families, and long-time residents alike, parks serve as gathering places, fitness hubs, and safe zones for children to grow and play.

By showing appreciation this July, we highlight the importance of continued investment in community infrastructure. It’s a small gesture with lasting impact.

Let your voice be part of the celebration—recognize those who make Tucson’s parks a place where everyone can thrive.
