The National Wealth Fund has made a significant investment in Scotland, committing £43.5 million to Pulpex Limited, a sustainable packaging company. This funding is part of a £62 million Series D round aimed at constructing Pulpex’s first commercial-scale manufacturing facility near Glasgow, creating 35 new jobs and advancing the decarbonization of the packaging industry.

Innovative Sustainable Packaging

Pulpex Limited has developed an innovative fibre-based bottle solution made from sustainably sourced wood pulp.

This technology offers a recyclable and biodegradable alternative to traditional glass and plastic packaging, aligning with global environmental goals. The investment in Pulpex highlights the growing market demand for sustainable packaging solutions.

The shift from plastic and glass to paper-based packaging aims to increase recycling rates and reduce waste, supporting the UK’s 25 Year Environment Plan.

By investing in such eco-friendly technologies, businesses can enhance their brand reputation and customer loyalty as consumers become more environmentally conscious.

Economic Impact on Scotland

The investment is expected to boost economic growth in Scotland, aligning with the UK Government’s Plan for Change.

The construction of Pulpex’s manufacturing facility near Glasgow will create 35 new jobs, contributing positively to the local community and economy.

This initiative reflects broader UK government efforts to reduce waste and achieve Net Zero goals by 2030. The involvement of the Scottish National Investment Bank underscores its commitment to supporting green projects that drive economic growth in Scotland.
