The UK government has launched the GOV.UK App, available from July 1, 2025, to streamline access to public services via smartphones.

This app aims to simplify administrative tasks by offering a customizable home page and will soon feature an AI chatbot for efficient service management.

Transforming Public Services

The introduction of the GOV.UK App marks a significant step in modernizing public services in the UK. By integrating essential services into a single platform, the app is designed to save time and reduce administrative burdens for users.

It offers a personalized experience with up to 11 key life event topics such as benefits, business, care, and travel.

Later this year, the app will incorporate GOV.UK Chat, an AI-powered chatbot that will assist users in navigating complex government information quickly.

This feature is expected to enhance user experience by providing immediate answers and facilitating seamless management of government benefits and services.

Features That Matter

  • Customizable home page tailored to personal circumstances
  • Integration with GOV.UK One Login for streamlined access
  • Future inclusion of AI chatbot for quick information retrieval
  • Plans for digital document integration like driving licenses
  • Aims to reduce fraud and save millions annually

User-Centric Design

The GOV.UK App is designed with user convenience at its core. By consolidating various government services into one accessible platform, it simplifies daily life administration.

Users can prioritize services relevant to their current life stage and receive timely notifications for important tasks such as MOT renewals or passport updates.

Benefits for Everyday Life

  • Simplifies access to multiple government services through facial ID login
  • Reduces need for navigating multiple websites or phone lines
  • Improves personal financial management with proactive notifications
  • Makes interactions with government faster and more convenient
  • Pilots digital documents like Veterans’ Card within the app later this year

Ministerial Comments

Technology secretary Peter Kyle said:

“Our new GOV.UK App shows for the first time how this government is overhauling taxpayer-funded services as we deliver on our Plan for Change. By putting public services in your pocket, we will do away with clunky paper forms and hours spent on hold, so you can immediately get the information you need and continue on with the rest of your day.

This release of the GOV.UK App is just the start. Soon, you will be able to use it to ask GOV.UK Chat any question you like about government services, and get a reliable answer immediately. You will then get personal notifications, reminding you when your MOT is due or whether you need to register to vote, and then you will be able to closely track your childcare credits just as you do your bank account.”
