Phoenix Landlord Open House Spotlights Opportunities

On October 23, 2024, landlords across Phoenix are invited to the City of Phoenix Housing Department’s Landlord Open House at Memorial Hall, Steele Indian School Park.

This event will showcase the benefits of participating in the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program, providing insight into how landlords can secure consistent rental income while supporting affordable housing solutions for local families.

What is the Housing Choice Voucher Program?

The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program, commonly known as Section 8, is a federal initiative designed to assist low-income families in securing stable housing. Under this program, the government covers a portion of the rent through a subsidy directly paid to landlords.

This ensures landlords receive reliable payments while contributing to affordable housing in their communities.

Why Should Landlords Attend the Open House?

The City of Phoenix’s Landlord Open House aims to create meaningful partnerships between local property owners and the HCV program. By attending, landlords can learn how the program benefits them, including:

  • Consistent Payments: Through the HCV Program, landlords receive monthly subsidies from the City of Phoenix, ensuring a steady flow of income regardless of the tenant’s financial situation.
  • Lower Tenant Turnover: HCV participants often remain in their rental homes longer, providing landlords with more tenant stability and reducing the costs associated with frequent turnover.

Event Highlights

When and Where:

  • Date: Wednesday, October 23, 2024
  • Time: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Location: Memorial Hall at Steele Indian School Park, 300 E. Indian School Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85012

Attendees will have the chance to meet city officials, housing specialists, and other local landlords to ask questions about the HCV Program and explore opportunities for collaboration. The event will also feature two breakout sessions for landlords:

  1. Housing Quality Standards (HQS) Inspections
Learn about common inspection failures and how to avoid them, ensuring your property meets the necessary standards.
  2. Request for Tenancy Approval (RFTA) Packet
Understand what the RFTA process entails and how it affects your role as a landlord.

Why This Matters to Phoenix

Phoenix has seen a dramatic increase in the need for affordable housing in recent years. The city is actively seeking landlords to participate in the HCV Program to expand housing options for low-income families.

The Landlord Open House presents a crucial opportunity for property owners to engage with this initiative, help address the local housing shortage, and benefit from reliable financial support.
