The Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission (OLCC) has embarked on a transformative journey with the groundbreaking of its new 347,000-square-foot distilled spirits distribution center in Canby.

This state-of-the-art facility promises to modernize OLCC’s distribution system, enhancing service efficiency for Oregonians while supporting local economic growth.

Modernizing Distribution: A Long-Awaited Development

For decades, the OLCC’s Milwaukie warehouse has been the backbone of Oregon’s distilled spirits distribution. However, operating at full capacity since the 1950s, it faced logistical challenges that threatened revenue opportunities for the state.

The new facility along the I-5 corridor is set to change this narrative by significantly expanding capacity and streamlining operations.

Craig Prins, OLCC Executive Director, emphasized the importance of this development:

“Our current warehouse operates at capacity, creating logistical challenges and risking revenue opportunities for the state. This new facility will allow us to better serve Oregon businesses and consumers efficiently and responsibly.”

What This Means for Oregon

  • The new warehouse will improve alcohol distribution efficiency across Oregon.
  • Local businesses may see enhanced competitiveness due to streamlined operations.
  • The project retains 65 jobs in Clackamas County with potential workforce growth.
  • Environmental standards are prioritized to mitigate potential effects.

A Community-Centric Approach

Clackamas County Commissioner Paul Savas expressed support for keeping the distribution center within county lines:

“Not only will 65 jobs remain in the area, but there is potential for growing the workforce right here in Canby.”

The project also aligns with broader efforts to modernize infrastructure across Oregon.

JE Dunn Construction leads this ambitious project. Jeff Fisher, JE Dunn Project Executive, highlighted their commitment:

“Breaking ground on OLCC’s new liquor warehouse is a tremendous milestone not only for our project team but also for the community.”

Project Timeline

Phase Activities Dates
Site Preparation Clearing and leveling site October 2023 – November 2023
Main Construction Building structure and systems installation December 2023 – June 2026
Operational Launch Facility fully operational August 2026 onwards

The Main Reason

The new facility will replace the existing Milwaukie warehouse infrastructure, which dates back to the 1950s.
The new facility, situated along the I-5 corridor, will greatly increase capacity, simplify operations, and boost efficiency for companies and consumers statewide.

With careful planning addressing environmental concerns and traffic management, this development stands as a testament to community-focused progress.
