West London is set to receive a £42.8 million funding boost from the UK government’s “Connect to Work” program, aimed at supporting disabled people and those with health conditions into employment.

This initiative, part of a broader £1 billion employment support package, seeks to enhance financial independence and living standards for up to 3,500 individuals over five years.

Empowering Employment Support

The “Connect to Work” program is designed to address significant barriers faced by disabled individuals and those with health conditions in securing employment.

By providing tailored support such as one-to-one employment advice and skills development, the initiative aims to match individuals with job opportunities while working closely with employers to recruit and retain disabled workers.

This approach not only benefits the participants but also contributes positively to local economies by fostering a skilled and diverse workforce.

Program Highlights

  • £42.8 million funding allocated for West London
  • Aims to support up to 3,500 people over five years
  • Part of a larger £1 billion national employment package
  • Focus on financial independence and improved living standards
  • Collaboration with local authorities like Ealing, Barnet, and Hammersmith & Fulham

National Impact and Government Initiative

This initiative is part of the UK government’s Plan for Change, which seeks to reform the welfare system and increase employment rates across England and Wales.

With an expected annual reach of up to 100,000 people nationwide, the program underscores the government’s commitment to creating inclusive workplaces that accommodate diverse needs.

The investment aligns with broader welfare reforms aimed at unlocking work opportunities for sick and disabled individuals.

Quotes from Key Figures

Work and Pensions Secretary Rt. Hon Liz Kendall MP, said:

“As part of our Plan for Change we are fixing the broken welfare system – getting more people into work, putting more money in people’s pockets, and putting the benefits bill on a sustainable footing.

The welfare system we inherited has shut too many talented people out of the workplace – with no support, no prospects, and no opportunities.

We are changing this. That’s why I’m delighted to see our Connect to Work programme kick off, with over £40 million of funding so local leaders in West London can give people in their area the tools they need to get in and on at work in a way that’s right for them.”

David Francis, Director of West London Alliance, said:

“The West London Alliance Boroughs are proud to be at the forefront of the ‘Connect to Work’ initiative, demonstrating the strength of our partnerships and our dedication to improving employment outcomes for West London residents.

This programme provides vital and tailored support to those facing challenges in the labour market, helping them to secure sustainable employment and build better lives.

The Connect to Work Programme is one of a number of initiatives being launched to help towards the government’s aim for an 80% employment rate.”

Local Partnerships Driving Success

The West London Alliance Partnership will manage the program, serving Ealing, Barnet, Hammersmith & Fulham, and surrounding areas.

These local partnerships play a crucial role in ensuring that tailored support reaches those who need it most.

By leveraging existing networks within these communities, the program aims to create lasting change that extends beyond immediate job placements.
