Creative Industries Council Welcomes New Leadership.

Baroness Shriti Vadera, a trailblazer in business and the arts, has been appointed co-chair of the Creative Industries Council.

This influential forum unites government and industry to drive innovation, growth, and opportunities in the UK’s creative sector, a vital industry contributing £125 billion annually to the economy.

Introduction

Baroness Shriti Vadera succeeds Sir Peter Bazalgette as co-chair of the Creative Industries Council, a move announced by the Culture Secretary. The duo will lead a taskforce to shape a strategic growth plan for the UK’s creative industries, aiming to boost innovation, exports, and regional development.

A New Era for the Creative Industries Council

Leadership Transition

Baroness Vadera, Chair of the Royal Shakespeare Company and Prudential plc, brings a wealth of experience to her new role. Known for her contributions to finance and the arts, she is the first female chair of the RSC. Her appointment marks a pivotal moment for the council’s mission to elevate the UK’s creative industries.

Sir Peter Bazalgette, a respected voice in the sector, will continue in his role until summer 2025. Together, they will oversee the council’s strategic transition, ensuring a seamless transfer of responsibilities and fostering collaboration.

Strategic Goals for Growth

The government has identified creative industries as one of eight key growth sectors under its Industrial Strategy. With the sector contributing £125 billion annually and employing millions across the UK, the council aims to unlock even greater potential.

The taskforce, co-chaired by Baroness Vadera and Sir Peter, will:

  • Develop a comprehensive growth plan.
  • Drive investment in creative clusters across the UK.
  • Focus on innovation through emerging technologies.
