1. Calabar, Cross River State: A Mix of Nature and Tradition

Located in the southern part of Nigeria, Calabar is a peaceful and charming destination. Surrounded by lush greenery and known for its warm hospitality, it’s often called Nigeria’s ecotourism capital. Whether you love nature, history, or food, Calabar has something for everyone.

Things to See and Do in Calabar

  • Obudu Mountain Resort: Take a ride in a cable car through the misty mountains, hike along scenic trails, or just enjoy the cool, fresh air. The views are absolutely breathtaking!
  • Afi Mountain Wildlife Sanctuary: This sanctuary is home to rare animals like lowland gorillas and drill monkeys. For a thrilling experience, walk across the canopy walkway high above the rainforest.

Food to Try

Calabar is known for its delicious Efik cuisine. Don’t miss out on local dishes like Afang Soup and Edikang Ikong, which are filled with fresh veggies, seafood, and traditional spices. These meals tell a story about the Efik people—you’ll understand once you taste them!

Best Time to Visit

The city is especially lively in December during the Calabar Carnival, Africa’s biggest street festival. With colorful costumes, lively music, and energetic parades, this event showcases the rich culture and joy of Nigeria.
