On October 11th, Rudy Garcia Park will transform into a haven of hope for Tucson’s unsheltered individuals and families. “Hope in the Park,” a resource fair organized by Tucson Homeless Connect and the City of Tucson, offers a lifeline of essential services and support to those in need.

From health screenings to legal assistance, this event is more than a gathering—it’s a community-driven effort to uplift our most vulnerable neighbors.

A Community Coming Together

The event, scheduled from 9 AM to 2 PM, reflects Tucson’s commitment to addressing homelessness through collective action.

Tucson Homeless Connect and the Multi-Disciplinary Outreach Team (MDOT) from the Housing and Community Development (HCD) department are leading the initiative.

By bringing together local agencies, businesses, medical providers, and volunteers, “Hope in the Park” aims to create a one-stop shop for vital resources.

Services Offered: A Comprehensive Support Network

Participants can access a wide array of services designed to meet basic needs and provide long-term support:

  • Health Screenings: Medical check-ups, vaccinations, and mental health services.
  • Housing Assistance: Guidance on temporary shelters, permanent housing options, and VA benefits.
  • Legal Aid: Access to legal advice and services, particularly for veterans.
  • Basic Necessities: Distribution of clothing, hygiene kits, and haircuts.
  • Pet Care: Animal care services for those with pets.

These services are critical in helping individuals and families on the path to stability and self-sufficiency.

The Heart of the Event: Volunteers and Donations

To make “Hope in the Park” a success, the community’s involvement is essential. Organizers are seeking 300 volunteers to help with setup, registration, guiding attendees, and cleanup. Volunteers play a crucial role in ensuring the event runs smoothly, offering personal support and a welcoming atmosphere.

In addition to time, tangible contributions are equally important. Donations of bicycles, solar cell phone chargers, gift cards, tents, sleeping bags, and monetary gifts are needed to provide immediate relief to those attending.

These items not only address immediate needs but also contribute to the long-term well-being of the unsheltered community.

How to Get Involved

Volunteers can sign up through the Tucson Homeless Connect website, with opportunities to assist throughout the event. Donations can be made online or mailed directly to Tucson Homeless Connect, ensuring that every contribution reaches those who need it most.

A Message of Hope

“Tucson Homeless Connect is more than just an event—it’s a lifeline for those in need,”

says Thelma Magallanes, MDOT project coordinator.

“It brings our community together to offer essential services, compassion, and hope to our most vulnerable neighbors, demonstrating that when we unite, we can make a real difference in the fight against homelessness.”

As Tucson homeless resource fair prepares for this significant event, the call to action is clear: Together, we can create a supportive environment that empowers those in need.

Whether through volunteering, donating, or simply spreading the word, every effort counts in making “Hope in the Park” a beacon of support and solidarity.

For more information on how to participate, visit the Tucson Homeless Connect website or contact the organizers directly. Your involvement can make a lasting impact in the lives of those who need it most.
