Shaping the Future of Phoenix Transit

A major shift in Phoenix’s public transit is on the horizon, and the city wants your input. The Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) program is launching its next round of community outreach for the 35th Avenue corridor, aiming to refine plans based on resident feedback.

With a mix of in-person workshops, pop-up events, and a virtual open house, locals have multiple opportunities to weigh in before the April 6, 2025 deadline.

Upcoming Workshops and Engagement Opportunities

Phoenix’s BRT team is committed to ensuring the community plays a central role in shaping transit improvements. The upcoming workshops and events offer a platform for residents and business owners to learn more and voice their opinions.

Community Workshops

  • Tuesday, February 18, 2025 – Alta Vista Elementary School, 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, March 8, 2025 – Carl Hayden High School, 11 a.m.

Business Workshops

  • Wednesday, February 19, 2025 – Alta Vista Elementary School, 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, March 1, 2025 – Carl Hayden High School, 9:30 a.m.
  • Wednesday, March 12, 2025 – Bret Tarver Learning Center, 6 p.m.

A virtual open house will also be available for those who prefer online access to materials and feedback forms.

Why Your Feedback Matters

BRT aims to enhance the speed, efficiency, and reliability of public transit in Phoenix. Two lane options are under consideration, and community input will help determine the best fit for the 35th Avenue corridor. Residents can explore route maps, transit plans, and other details at MeetPhoenixBRT.com.

What is Bus Rapid Transit?

BRT is a high-capacity bus system designed to offer faster and more convenient travel. While each BRT system is customized to meet local needs, common features include:

  • Dedicated bus lanes for reduced traffic delays
  • Enhanced stations with real-time arrival updates
  • Efficient boarding for faster service

Transportation 2050: A Long-Term Vision

Phoenix’s BRT expansion is part of Transportation 2050 (T2050), a 35-year citywide plan approved by voters in 2015. Funded by a sales tax and additional federal and county sources, T2050 is expected to generate $16.7 billion, covering over half of the program’s overall cost.

Projected Funding Sources for T2050

Funding Source Amount ($ Billions)
City Sales Tax 16.7
Federal & County Funds 14.8
Passenger Fares & Other Varies

For more information, visit the T2050 page or follow Phoenix Public Transit, Phoenix Street Transportation, and Valley Metro on social media.

Stay Involved

Residents are encouraged to attend workshops, explore project details online, and provide feedback. The success of Phoenix’s BRT program depends on community collaboration—your input will shape a more efficient and accessible public transit system.
