As Ukraine rebuilds its economy amidst ongoing recovery efforts, this new office will provide critical policy tools for achieving ambitious climate targets, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 65% by 2030, a central target under Ukraine’s National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP).
“The UK is committed to supporting Ukraine in rebuilding an energy system that is more secure, sustainable, decentralised, and smarter,” commented Martin Harris. “We are helping Ukraine plan for a Net-Zero future and for integration with European energy markets.”
The office will also play a key role in attracting green investment, engaging both private and public sectors in funding climate initiatives that could transform the landscape of Ukrainian energy and infrastructure.
Green Finance and International Support
Funded through a commitment exceeding £1 million from the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), the Green Transition Office is a powerful statement of the UK’s support for Ukraine’s journey to economic and environmental resilience.
Its establishment follows the Ukraine Recovery Conference in June 2024, where international partners, including the UK and the EU, pledged ongoing assistance for Ukraine’s green transition.
