Celebrate Art, Tradition, and Community as Phoenix Honors Lunar New Year.

Phoenix Chinese Week 2025 kicks off on Monday, January 27, with a special celebration at City Hall. The event, featuring art exhibits, live demonstrations, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony, marks the start of a week-long series of cultural festivities, including a family-friendly Lunar New Year Festival.

A Grand Opening at City Hall

The 35th annual Phoenix Chinese Week begins with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on January 27 at 10 a.m. in the 1st-floor atrium of Phoenix City Hall, 200 W. Washington St.

Mayor Kate Gallego, Vice Mayor Ann O’Brien, and leaders from Phoenix Sister Cities will join the community to celebrate this cultural milestone.

Visitors can enjoy a live demonstration of traditional calligraphy and painting by renowned Taiwan artist Ken Fang.

Christina Lee, another talented artist, will showcase her calligraphy in a captivating art exhibit. This year’s theme highlights Phoenix’s 46-year sister-city relationship with Taipei, Taiwan.

Lunar New Year Festival at Steele Indian School Park

The vibrant Lunar New Year Festival takes place over the weekend on February 1–2 at Steele Indian School Park, 300 E. Indian School Rd.

Festival Highlights:

  • Performances: Watch dragon and lion dances, traditional music, and cultural shows.
  • Vendors: Explore stalls offering Asian crafts, unique goods, and delicious food.
  • Interactive Activities: Enjoy hands-on booths featuring paper crafts, calligraphy lessons, and more.

Event Times:

  • Saturday, February 1: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, February 2: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Admission is free, making it an ideal outing for families and community members looking to experience the richness of Chinese culture.

Fostering Global Connections

Phoenix Chinese Week also celebrates the city’s commitment to cultural diplomacy through its Sister Cities program. Phoenix has fostered relationships with 11 sister cities worldwide, promoting peace, friendship, and collaboration.

This year’s spotlight on Taipei underscores the deep ties between the two cities and their shared commitment to cultural exchange.

Additional Ways to Engage

Beyond the festivities, Phoenix Chinese Week provides year-round outreach programs to share Chinese cultural arts. Schools and organizations can access free workshops in Chinese painting, paper folding, and language lessons to deepen their understanding of this rich heritage.

For those seeking a more formal celebration, the Chinese New Year Dinner Banquet on February 8 offers an elegant evening of traditional cuisine and festivities.

Celebrate and Connect

Phoenix Chinese Week 2025 offers something for everyone—from art lovers to families seeking an enriching experience. Mark your calendar, spread the word, and join your neighbors in honoring the Lunar New Year and Phoenix’s vibrant cultural diversity.
