High-level representatives from Colombia and the United States met at the San Carlos Palace in Bogotá on May 28-29, 2024, for the XI High-Level Dialogue, reinforcing the strategic alliance between the two nations and launching the “Vida Colombia Strategy” to address common challenges and opportunities.

 

Introduction

In Bogotá, high-level officials from Colombia and the United States convened for the XI High-Level Dialogue, emphasizing their enduring partnership and announcing the “Vida Colombia Strategy.” This initiative aims to bolster cooperation in democracy, peacebuilding, economic development, and environmental protection.

 

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

Colombia’s Foreign Minister, Luis Gilberto Murillo Urrutia, and the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, Richard Verma, led the discussions. The dialogue reaffirmed the 202-year friendship and cooperation between the two countries, highlighting their commitment to strategic collaboration in multiple sectors.

The “Vida Colombia Strategy” introduces a new vision for U.S.-Colombia relations, aiming to address hemispheric challenges such as democratic stability, environmental protection, and socio-ecological transition. This strategy underscores the importance of inclusivity, particularly for Afro and Indigenous Peoples, LGBTQI+ persons, and other historically marginalized communities.
