Residents Invited to Join a Tree-Planting Celebration This Saturday
A fresh burst of greenery is coming to Tucson’s south side as community members gather for a special tree-planting event.
This Saturday, from 9 to 11 a.m., volunteers will plant 26 native shade trees at Ventura Vista Apartments, 6200 S. Campbell Ave.
The initiative, part of the City of Tucson’s Violence Interruption and Vitalization Action (VIVA) program, aims to enhance the neighborhood’s environment while supporting ongoing community safety efforts.
Planting Roots for a Stronger Community
Tucson residents, city officials, and local organizations are teaming up to make a lasting impact.
With support from the City Manager’s Office, Tucson Clean and Beautiful, Scotia Management Group/Avenue 5, the Tucson Police Department, and the Community Safety, Health, and Wellness Program, this effort will revitalize shared outdoor spaces.
The newly planted trees will expand the area’s green canopy, offering much-needed shade for residents—especially youth who frequent the basketball courts.
By integrating green stormwater infrastructure, such as wood chip mulching and berms, the project ensures the trees thrive with minimal maintenance.
